Week Reflection

Reflecting upon this week, i am quiet disappointed with the projects progress.  I have spent a great deal of time trying to model the area in Katoomba.  I was unable to successfully import a terrain into UE4 from the contours derived off the internet.

Also with the maps obtained online, the 2D image/colour was absent which created a really low quality environment.

Due to this I scrapped the terrain derived from the topographical information and used GIMP, World Machine and GeoControl2 for the terrain.  This provided a high quality terrain.
Experimenting with different terrains, i found i had trouble with importing a base HD terrain texture. Its really important i get this texture working otherwise it will deduct from the environments realistic feel.
Luckily through restarting UE the texture HD base texture appeared which gave the environment an awesome feel and improved it a lot.  Definitely makes it look more realistic.
Next stop...terrain editing to mimic Katoomba
